في العام 1974، كان لقاء الراحل ألوف بالمه، أول مسؤول أوروبي مع الرئيس الراحل ياسر عرفات. واستقبله في العاصمة السويدية ستوكهولم عام 1983.

آمن بالمه بعدالة القضية الفلسطينية وأكد على شرعية منظمة التحرير الفلسطينية داخل البرلمان السويدي عندما كان رئيساً للوزراء لفترتين برلمانيتين ودافع عنها في المحافل الدولية والإقليمية. مثّل دعمه للشعب الفلسطيني قناعته كرجل إصلاح بأننا كباقي شعوب العالم، من حقنا العيش بحرية واستقلال. وكذلك كان دعمه لشعبي جنوب افريقيا وفيتنام. وقد اغتيل في عام 1986 بسبب مواقفه وقيمه هذه.

تكريماً له وتقديراً لجهوده في دعم الحقوق المشروعة للشعب الفلسطيني، قامت سفيرة دولة فلسطين لدى مملكة السويد بوضع الزهور على قبره.

In 1974, Swedish Prime MinAister Olof Palme was the first European official to meet with President Yasser Arafat. Almost a decade later, in 1983, he received him in the Swedish capital, Stockholm.

Palme believed in the justice of the Palestinian cause and during his two tenures as prime minister, he affirmed the legitimacy of the Palestine Liberation Organization and defended it in international and regional forums. His support for the Palestinian people stemmed from his conviction, as a man of reform, that we, like the rest of the people’s of the world, have the right to live in freedom and independence. Such was his support for the peoples of South Africa and Vietnam. He was assassinated in 1986 because of these stances and values.

To honor him and in recognition of his efforts in supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the Kingdom of Sweden laid flowers on his grave.
