Today, June 18, 2024, the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Sweden, Rula Almhaissen, met with the Speaker of the Swedish Parliament, Andreas Norlén. During the meeting, she briefed him on the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza, Palestine, and the escalation of war crimes by Israeli occupation forces in the West Bank over the past eight months. Almhaissen called for support for an immediate ceasefire, increased humanitarian aid, and backing for diplomatic and legal efforts to end the occupation.

She expressed her appreciation for Sweden’s humanitarian support and gratitude for the parliamentary initiative to freeze the European-Israeli Partnership Agreement. Almhaissen emphasized the importance of supporting UNRWA and holding the Israeli occupying state accountable under international law and international humanitarian law.

She also stressed the importance of the Riksdag, Sweden’s hub of democracy, supporting the Palestinian right to hold democratic elections, including in Jerusalem, the capital of Palestine, which the Israeli occupation is obstructing. In response, Mr. Norlén emphasized his ongoing attention to the situation in Palestine, expressing sadness at the suffering and losses in Gaza. He reiterated Sweden’s commitment to the European Union’s consensus, particularly in seeking to impose sanctions against settler violence.
